Design 9: City Hall project
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
This project consists of new city hall for Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Two major challenges of this project are to satisfy a complex program
of spaces and separations between public, private, administrative, and
to make the building cohesive with its context.
The major components of the building consist of a 7 story
administration volume defining the edge of the urban street (click here
for video), a conference chamber & commissioner offices at the center
with reflecting pool, and the public assembly hall bending perpendicular
to the river at the rear of the site (click here for video).
The lot across the street from the site houses a parking structure with
a pedestrian bridge making a connection on the second floor.
Virtual Rendering Project
We were assigned to chose a building designed by a famous architect, then to model in 3D and to
animate with a combination of real photos and computer animations. I chose the Schwartz House
by architect Pierre Koenig, located in California.
The video is a short sample of the original. Due to the large amount of the memory the full video is

Ink Drawings on Vellum
Materials and Methods course
A series of drawings each as an investigation of a building chosen for the exercise. Each student
was to explore and document one building detail that exemplified the architecture of the whole
The drawing was constructed from researching existing documentation and construction
standards and techniques learned during the course. The drawing was then noted and critiqued
at the end of each exercise.
